School-Age Providers

Child care licensing fees are suspended until June 30, 2023; however, due to recently passed legislation, effective July 1, 2023, child care fees will be required.

School-age providers offer regularly scheduled care for only school-age children, ages 5 through 12, for periods less than 24 hours a day when children are not attending school. DCYF licenses approximately 580 school-age programs in Washington State.

School-Age Orientation

If you are interested in becoming licensed to operate a school-age program, you must attend an orientation.

  • If you are planning on working in a school-age program, you may need to complete the school-age orientation as well, depending on your role.

Where Can I Get Child Care and School-Age Licensing Orientation?

To better serve our community and providers, we have developed a simple webinar to help school-age only programs go through the licensing orientation process.

Step One

If you do not have a Stars ID number, register for a Stars ID number which can be done here: www.merit.dcyf.wa.gov.

Step Two

Visit the DCYF Online Training site www.dcyftraining.com. You will need to register as a new user if this is your first time accessing the training site.

Step Three

Complete the School-Age Child Care Program Orientation on the DCYF Online Training site.

The training site will automatically record your completed training in your MERIT Workforce Registry record, as long as the personal identification information in both systems match. If your completed training is not recorded in your MERIT Professional Record, please contact merit@dcyf.wa.gov
