Community Compensation

When funding is available, some Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) workgroups can offer payments (or "compensation") to community members. DCYF issues payments in line with the Office of Equity Community Compensation Guidelines

The following information is for members of Class One workgroups. There are five classes of workgroups defined in RCW 43.03.220-43.03.265. If you have questions about the type of workgroup you are a member of, please reach out to the Community Engagement team

  • Pay rate is $57/hour, up to $200 per day.
  • You can get paid for participating, but not if your job is already paying you to attend.
  • Most people need to apply for a Statewide Vendor Number (SWV), which means sharing your name, social security number and other personal details with the Office of Financial Management. If you are unable or unwilling to share this information, DCYF may not be able to offer a stipend.
  • How DCYF spends money is public information. You may want to use a separate email for your work with state agencies. Your home address and personal financial details will not be shared.
  • If DCYF pays you more than $600 per year, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires DCYF to send you a 1099-MISC form for tax purposes.
  • Getting paid could impact benefits you receive like WIC or unemployment payments. Visit the Office of Equity webpage for a chart of how benefits may be impacted.
  • Travel and reimbursements may be available depending on funding. Rates for reasonable allowances related to travel can be found on the Office of Financial Management webpage

For information and to apply for compensation, please complete the Compensation, Reimbursement and Reasonable Allowances for Meeting-Related Costs Agreement Form (DCYF 07-030). Send the completed form to the DCYF manager who oversees the workgroup you serve on. Please note that not all groups have funding for stipends.
