July 1, 2025
Every July, Washington State honors the hard work of staff, volunteers, and partners that make a positive impact on the young people involved in juvenile rehabilitation (JR).
This work happens all year long and is sometimes overlooked, however during July, DCYF celebrates JR appreciation month to remind people that the work that is happening behind the scenes makes a difference for young people.
This year:
- Young people in JR earned degrees from High School to College.
- Young people in JR completed vocational and Job-readiness programs.
- DCYF opened Harbor Heights, a new JR facility in Aberdeen.
- DCYF implemented new policies to increase safety.
There are more than 600 young people in Washington's Juvenile Rehabilitation system of care. Washington state has three secure facilities and eight community facilities. The goal of JR is to deliver treatment, provide resources, and develop skills so young people can plan for their future and reenter their communities.
