How to File a Complaint

If you have experienced discrimination or have a language access concern involving the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), there are several ways to file a complaint. You may also contact other agencies for civil rights or workplace-related issues, or request reasonable modifications for disabilities.

Department of Children, Youth, and Families

You may file a civil rights or language access complaint directly with the DCYF Service Access and Civil Rights Program. You may choose to email or mail completed forms:

The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, created in 1957 by the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1957, works to uphold the civil and constitutional rights of all persons in the United States, particularly some of the most vulnerable members of our society. The Division enforces federal statutes prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, disability, religion, familial status, national origin, and citizenship status.

The mission of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is to enhance the health and well-being of all Americans, by providing for effective health and human services and by fostering sound, sustained advances in the sciences underlying medicine, public health, and social services.

Established in 1949 by the Washington State Legislature, the Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) is a state agency responsible for administering and enforcing the Washington Law Against Discrimination.

You may also file an employment complaint with the WA State Human Rights Commission or the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
